Raymond Ko
I am a senior student in Tsinghua University in Beijing, major in Biology. My passion is mainly on neuroscience, particularly learning and memory mechanisms.
Several aims of this website:
1) Let prospective students from Hong Kong, Macau and foreign countries learn more about how college life in Beijing, China are really like
2) Share my experiences and advice with general college students and help them to be more successful in college. I am going to write about study methods, student activities, laboratory research and application to graduate schools. Currently I am also writing something about travelling in China.
3) Let my parents and friends know more about my life in mainland, and probably in United States in the future.
4) A chance for me to write frequently. You know, writing is very important for college students.
You may have a look at the site map to see the main purpose of each part of my site.
Friends tell me I can also write a blog, instead of making a website. However, I just found that updating a blog from time to time just consumes me as much time as making a website. And it seems to me that a website is more organizable and clear. My readers can find what they want to read more quickly. To save time, I just use Microsoft Word to make it. I’ll try Frontpage or Dreamweaver later when I am not so busy.
Brief introduction of myself
My life at Tsinghua started in August, 2005. Actually, I was accepted by the “Early Admission Scheme” in Hong Kong. As I’ve got 8 distinctions out of 9 courses in HKCEE (a public exam for Form.5 students in HK), I was allowed to skip Form 7 and choose my favorite programs in universities. Different from most of the students, I gave up my chances in HK and came to mainland China to study Biology. It really took risks. It was the second year Tsinghua University and Peking University took part in this Admission Scheme. The students did not know what kinds of problems they would encounter, and the professors and officials at Tsinghua did not know either. It finally turned out that many unexpected problems pop out continuously after I arrived at Beijing, from the changes in language, exam format, culture and living style. Anyway, I have made up my choice. My goal is still clear: to be a great scientist who discovers the beauty of nature.
