Beijing Experiences
When we move from one place to another, we will surely have a lot of new experiences, especially when the culture of the two cities is very different. Beijing, as a rapidly developing city in the world, made my experiences more interesting.
Rapid development

A newly built commercial street in the central area of Beijing. In these three years, many new buildings suddenly sprouted here.
Olympics

It is really lucky that the Olympics take place when I study in Beijing. I can really experience the many changes brought to Beijing by the Olympics, from the behavior of people, policies of government and the world’s attitude to China.
Patriotism

In Hong Kong, students have no idea about patriotism because the former British government avoided its education. In China, patriotism is a far more common topic and it is strongly linked to daily lives. For example, during the New Year Gathering in Tsinghua’s Great Hall, students had to waive national flags and sang a patriotic song after the countdown. The photo shows the performance of the military band in the Great Hall of People, praising the revolution led by the Communist Party. This is quite understandable if we read more about Chinese history, as the nation was dominated by so many foreign nations during the early 1900’s. Education of patriotism may merely aim at controlling the thoughts of people and strengthen government’s authority after the establishment of the new Chinese government. However, it now becomes general policies and culture.
More open

This is a concert performed by world-known singers during Olympics. China is now more open to foreign culture compared with 10 years ago.
Snow

It was also the first time for me to see snow! The beautiful snow views in the first and second photos were actually taken in Tsinghua campus!
Survival Island

It is boring if we always go to traditional tourist spots in Beijing like the Summer Palace and Imperial Palace. A place called Survival Island in Beijing provides visitors with opportunities for Do-it-yourself arts. In the photos, my lover is making a tie-dyeing cloth, soya bean milk and ceramic.
Food

One of the gains of studying in Beijing is that I can enjoy a lot of delicious food in a cheaper price compared with Hong Kong.
