It seems I have written very little about my own daily lives in my blog, so let me now share with you something more personal.
I arrived at Boston in July and took the English Language Program offered to international students by Harvard. The program is not just a great chance for improving English and meeting friends, but also preparing us for the intensive study and work load at Harvard. As an instructor told us, we’re going to meet a lot of “insane” people and “insane” things here, so, “Welcome to Harvard!”

(many presentations required~)
I’ve talked to some students in the program. Although their expression of ideas might be restricted by the fluency of English, it is not hard to discover their talents when we discuss and dig into the thoughts. I believe it would be very enjoyable to work with different groups of talents during my PhD.

We have around 600 new graduate students this year, and one-third of them are international students, which is a rather big proportion. It is excited to talk about different cultures and exchange ideas with great minds all over the world.

(friends from 5 different countries: Sri Lanka, China, Mexico, Japan and Iran)
Choices of food are also abundant. We can have the American style sandwiches and pizzas, rice with curry at Indian restaurants, lamen and sushi at Japanese and Korean restaurants, and the delicious lobsters at China town. I also cook my own noodles at dormitory, as this is relatively cheaper and faster.

(My dormitory, just 20-second walk from my lab~)

The Harvard Yard, with a lot of shops and restaurants, is just 10min walk from the dormitory, thus it is a convenient place to live in. There’re quite a lot of traditional buildings made of red bricks, and we can always see a lot of tourists walking around and taking photos (just like what I saw at Peking University and Tsinghua University in China). New things are always attractive, but I strongly feel that it is not the buildings themselves, but the great minds working in these buildings and the great ideas created which make me feel marvelous.
