Travelling in China

Inner Mongolia(Aug,07)   Shandong(Aug,08)   Hong Kong, Macau and Hainan(Jan,08)

Studying in Tsinghua gives me a chance to travel in different provinces in China more conveniently. Different from many Hong Kong friends who can afford to fly around the world, I insist on not depending too much on my parents. I just merely made use of my scholarship to do some travelling. Usually, I went out during the summer and winter vacation, and planned the route by myself before hand. I believe that travelling is a search for freedom. By visiting places with different characteristics and talking with people of different culture, I can free my mind from the ivory tower. Sometimes we citizens may unconsciously take for granted that all people in the world are having similar format of life: study, get a job and then retire.

I hate to take part in tours. Tours have too many restrictions on time and places you visit. You cannot really have a touch on real life of people, and that contradicts to my principle. Also, by planning the journey all by yourself, you allow unexpected incidents suddenly pop out during the travel. No matter these incidents are fun or challenging, they will become an important part of your life experience. Once I walked along a long rail with my lover because we could not find a train station in a remote area. It’s not easy. We had to be cautious with our legs as there’re many pebbles on the ground, and with our eyes as trains might get near within seconds. Anyway, it’s also romantic.

Scientists and writers always want to know how to improve their creativity. Travelling is one of the answers. Reality is out of our expectation. Many things you have never imagined before are really happening somewhere in the world.

Travelling can also change my pace of life. I am often too busy. When I travel, however, I can stop for a while to appreciate for the beauty of nature and traditions of people. Such appreciation is the origin of talent.
